Tesla dealerships, service centers, and charging stations have become unexpected battlegrounds in a growing political movement targeting CEO Elon Musk’s involvement in President Trump’s administration. What started as isolated demonstrations has turned into a nationwide protest campaign, with vandalism, arson, and even violent incidents against Tesla properties.
UPDATE: Musk has acknowledged that a massive cyber attack is underway against X (formerly Twitter). Because of the attack many X services are down. X is investigating it. Musk post about this:

Story continues:
Musk, now a senior adviser in the Trump administration and head of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has drawn fire from left-wing activist groups, who see his push for streamlining government as a threat to the bureaucracy they rely on.

But while they chant slogans and block Tesla showrooms, many Americans are beginning to wonder: is this really about Musk, or is it a broader resistance against efficiency and reform?

Escalating Attacks on Tesla
Over the past week, several Tesla locations have been targeted in increasingly aggressive ways.
- Boston – Seven Tesla charging stations were set on fire.
- Portland, OR – A Tesla dealership was hit by gunfire, damaging multiple cars.
- New York City – Protesters shut down a West Village Tesla showroom, leading to six arrests.
- Colorado – A Tesla dealership was vandalized with spray-painted slurs, and a Molotov cocktail was planted near a vehicle.
The “Tesla Takedown” movement, as it has been called, claims to be a response to Musk’s policies within the Trump administration. But for many observers, the sheer intensity of these attacks suggests that this is less about policy and more about a growing hostility toward Musk himself.
Protests or Political Retribution?
Demonstrators, many affiliated with progressive groups, have been chanting:
“Nobody voted for Elon Musk!”
“Oligarchs out, democracy in!”
Signs at protests have taken a more personal turn, with messages like “Send Musk to Mars Now!!”—a nod to his leadership of SpaceX.
New York State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, a Democrat, has acknowledged that the protests have been escalating, growing in size and police presence each week.
But some critics point out that these demonstrations are less about genuine political discourse and more about suppressing an outsider who is reshaping Washington’s power structures. Musk’s vision for a more efficient government, streamlined agencies, and accountability is deeply unpopular among those who benefit from an entrenched bureaucracy.
Tesla Owners Caught in the Crossfire
Beyond protests, Tesla customers themselves are feeling the effects. Some have expressed discomfort with the political associations of the brand, leading a handful of owners to trade in their vehicles.

One former Tesla owner stated, “I’m sort of embarrassed to be seen in that car now.”
However, others are standing firm, defending Musk’s leadership and pushing back against what they see as politically motivated attacks on one of America’s most innovative companies. Many point out that targeting Tesla, a company that has revolutionized the electric vehicle market, seems contradictory for activist groups that often champion green energy.

Musk Fires Back
Elon Musk has not remained silent. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he called out what he claims are “ActBlue-funded groups” behind the protests, including Disruption Project, Rise & Resist, and Democratic Socialists of America. His statement on X:

While Musk’s statement sparked debate, independent reports have yet to establish a clear link between these donors and the protests. Regardless, Musk has been clear: he sees this as a politically motivated campaign against him, not a spontaneous movement.
Despite the controversy, Tesla remains one of the most successful American companies, with a loyal customer base and strong financial performance. While some individuals may distance themselves from the brand, the company’s impact on the auto industry is undeniable.
Though apart from U.S. there are reports of declining sales in Europe and Australia, possibly due to political motivations by prospective customers.
Some political analysts raise larger questions about free enterprise and political retaliation due to protests. Should a company be targeted simply because of its CEO’s political affiliations? And if an administration is working to make government more efficient, why is that a cause for violent opposition?
Though many analysts and critics have pointed out the privacy risks of DOGE employees accessing citizens’ data on a large scale.
Right now Tesla dealerships and service centers remain flashpoints in this ideological battle. These protests will continue to escalate or fizzle out remains to be seen in coming days.
